"The practice of genuine virtue leads to a life of odious boredom. "
So feels widowed young countess Anna von Esslin, who is denied her normal erotic pursuits while staying with relatives in Paris. Without her usual opportunities for pleasure, the countess resorts to visiting a local brothel but not as a client. To get the satisfaction she craves, the countess must masquerade as one of the girls. . . .
The Countess Client Mills Boon Spice Briefs edition by Alison Richardson Literature Fiction eBooks
Brief, excellently written historical erotica. Highly recommended if any of those qualifiers push your buttons. Our heroine, Anna von Esslin, is a countess who declares, in the first lines of the novella: "The practice of genuine virtue leads to a life of odious boredom -- of that there can be no question, and I cannot imagine that there is a woman alive who honestly aspires to the unhealthy ideal of true feminine chastity. The appearance of virtue, however, is a very useful thing."
That should give you a sense of the overall tone, which is witty and smart and decidedly amoral.
So this little novella charts one of Anna's ingenious plots to safely indulge her erotic appetite, and how she makes a misstep that causes a scandal. It's not a romance - there's no happy ending - but there is a complete story.
Since it involves Anna taking a turn at the local brothel with a particularly well-endowed 'client' there might be some triggering elements, as the client is not particularly concerned with Anna's well being. Anna, of course, doesn't mind that at all.

The Countess Client Mills Boon Spice Briefs edition by Alison Richardson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
You have to read all three books together. Individually they are intreguing but together its a delicious read. I wish there were more

Love her writing. Recommend purchasing all 3.
I read "An Impolite Seduction" first, not being clued-in to the fact that it was second in the series. This no doubt accounts for the inconclusive ending the earlier reviewer complained of. Will the somewhat rough-hewn lover capture the Countess's heart at last? I certainly hope so; but if she finally spurns him, I'd be happy to jump into my time-travel/book entry machine and grab him myself.
I loved the raunchy frankness of the story, the unapologetic sexuality of the Countess, the wit, the imaginative sex scenes, everything! This is not the boring "tab A, slot B" seduction all too often rehashed in romance fiction; it's lively, unexpected, and very hot. I must read more of this writer's work. She's got what it takes!
